Erasure animation, 470 pictures, 1:44 min.
This animation was inspired by Ai WeiWei's exhibition at the Museum of Cycladic Art. Using the Cycladic figure as the main character, modelled off one of the central sculptures of the exhibition, Standing Figure (2016), I created a loose visual interpretation of Ai Weiwei's life. Using pivotal works of the artists' oeuvre, such as Dropping a Han Dynasty Urn (1995), as well as key details of his life, including his surveillance and censorship by the Chinese government, this erasure animation provides an allegorical account of this influential artist's life and work.
